Fallen Power Line Causes 'Domino Effect' In Bel Air: Official

Utility boxes burned, fire broke out and smoke was reported inside homes on East Macphail Road Monday night, officials said.

BEL AIR, MD — Authorities said a fallen power line caused a domino effect on East Macpahil Road. First came the smoke, then fire and ultimately burning, officials reported.

Nobody was injured, according to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., officials said a high-voltage line fell onto a passing truck on East Macphail Road. The incident happened between Shamrock Road and Jackson Boulevard.

"The dropped line caused a domino effect of incidents in the same block..." said Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company. Smoke was found inside two homes, a gutter was found on fire and Verizon boxes were burned as a result of the utility line falling, officials said.

The area was closed to through-traffic so that BGE could remove the power line from Macphail Road, according to Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire Company.
