Fan Started Blaze at Jump On It Bounce House: Fire Marshal

Most damage was contained to Batman inflatable, officials said; the business has set a tentative time for reopening.

FOREST HILL, MD — A business filled with inflatable bounce houses is closing for approximately one month on the heels of a fire at the location in Forest Hill.

Jump On It, on Industry Lane, experienced extensive smoke, soot and water damage after a blaze erupted from a malfunctioning fan around 12:40 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, the fire marshal reported.

The business will reopen in the next 30 days or by Nov. 1, according to Jump On It.

A parent is credited with alerting people last week that there was a fire inside the business. There were about 25 people inside at the time when the parent noticed smoke, which turned to flames, the fire marshal reported. The parent alerted others, including a representative from the front desk who used the intercom to let others know.

The fire marshal said that the employee shut off the electricity, which prevented flames from traveling outside the Batman bounce house and spreading to the others.

There was $200,000 in structural damage and $250,000 worth of items were also lost in the fire.
