One Dead, One Injured In Route 24 Crash: Police

Route 24 has reopened after a deadly crash in Harford County, according to officials.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A man died and a woman was injured in a crash on MD 24 Thursday morning, according to Maryland State Police. The road was closed for about four hours as police investigated.

Troopers were called to the crash on Route 24/Emmorton Road between the US 40 spur and Edgewood Road at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

Officials said an Infiniti SUV had been speeding south on Route 24 when it passed the Route 40 spur, left the road, hit a tree in the median and flipped, then caught fire.

Police said the driver, who was thrown out of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A woman who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment, officials reported. Names of both individuals are not being released pending next-of-kin notification.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team was investigating the collision, and the Maryland State Highway Administration assisted with road closures during the crash response.

Buses may have been delayed due to the closure of Road 24, according to Harford County Public Schools, which re-routed buses that took that stretch of road.

"We ask for your patience as delays on [Route] 24 may have an impact throughout the county," Harford County Public Schools said in a statement.

By 4 p.m., state transportation officials said Route 24 had reopened.

INITIAL REPORT: A fatal crash is under investigation on MD 24, according to Maryland State Police. The road is closed in both directions, police reported before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.

The crash is on Route 24/Emmorton Road in the area of Edgewood Road, police said.
One vehicle was involved, state transportation officials reported.

Route 24 is closed between US 40 and Edgewood Road, according to authorities.
