Fiction 20 Down Heads Closer to Harford

After heading off on their first national tour, on the road for almost two months, is back in the area and looking forward to playing for familiar faces.

The band was started by lead singer and Joppa resident Jordan Lally in 2007. Lally was later joined by graduate D.J. Fritzges on bass, Andre Toney on drums and Justin Berdeguez on guitar.

Since then, the band has seen some changes, like getting a new guitarist at the end of 2011 and coming up with a new term for their sound.

Wes Anderson joined the band in December 2011, replacing Berdeguez on guitar.

"I connected with the guys through social media," Anderson said.

The 25-year-old Ohio native was working in finance in Chicago when he learned about the opening in the band and auditioned.

Because he was already familiar with the band and their sound, Anderson was a great fit.

"It's been a lifestyle change," Anderson said. "This is a step up from anything I was used to before."

Now, Anderson says, he's chasing his dream with Fiction 20 Down.

"We're on our way," Anderson said.

He added that the band recently came up with the term "groove rock" to define their sound which incorporates elements of rock, alternative rock, reggae and hip hop.

"It’s not one particular sound," Anderson said

Anderson now has a permanant residence in Abingdon making Harford County home for him, too.

Through all the band's changes and new experiences, however, one thing that hasn't changed is the band's tie to Harford County.

After going on their first national tour and being on the road for more than a month and a half, the band will perform a show a little closer to home this weekend.

Saturday, June 23, Fiction 20 Down will play a show across the Susquehanna River in Port Deposit, and they're hoping for a hometown welcome.

"You know it’s home for us, so you know it’s good to be back," Anderson said.

He explained one of the valuable lessons they learned on tour was not to withold expectations going into a show.

"But I'd say for this particular show we're pretty confident," Anderson said.

The band expects family, friends and local fans to turn out for the show at the Susky River Grille, located at 600 Rowland Drive in Port Deposit.

"We’re looking forward to playing for familiar faces," Anderson said.
