BEL AIR, MD – A Bel Air firefighter will be laid to rest this week.
Tyler James Smith, 26, of Forest Hill, died on Saturday, May 14, 2016 in his home.

Born on May 8, 1990 in York, Pa., he was the son of Judith Ann Smithson of Forest Hill and Michael James Smith and his wife, Renee of Delta, Pa.
Tyler was a farm boy enjoying agriculture, loved to work, was at home in the outdoors and spent his lifetime on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. He had been a member of the Black Horse 4-H Club and the FFA Chapter at Kennard Dale High School in Fawn Grove, Pa., where he was a graduate in 2009.

Tyler’s true passion was all about helping others and volunteering as a firefighter for multiple fire companies. He was currently active with the Bel Air V.F.C.; Delta-Cardiff V.F.C. and Whiteford V.F.C. Previously he serviced with Citizens V.F.C. in Fawn Grove and Red Lion V.F.C., both in Pennsylvania. Tyler proudly served as a fourth generation volunteer firefighter.
Tyler was currently employed with CNA Construction in Forest Hill as an inspector and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #182 in Whiteford. Tyler was loved by many and touched numerous lives.
Family members include, four siblings, Jamilyn and Evan Smith, both of Delta, Pa., and Lindsey and Jordan Sommer, both of New Park, Pa. Paternal grandparents – H. James and Nancy (McFadden) Smith. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents – Royston and Gloria (Grien) Smithson. Additional survivors include several loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In 2010 Tyler was blessed to receive a heart transplant at Hershey Medical Center, which allowed him to live the full life he enjoyed. In lieu of sending flowers and in appreciation of this donation, the family would appreciate memorial contributions sent to the Gift of Life Donor Program, 867 Fishburn Road, Hershey, PA 17033.
The viewing for Smith will be from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, at the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company's station on South Hickory Avenue in Bel Air. A fire company recognition ceremony will follow the 8 p.m. viewing.
The funeral service for Smith will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, at the firehouse at 109 South Hickory Avenue, Bel Air.
Rev. Melissa A. McDade will be officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Pylesville.
