Firefighters From 3 States Help Battle Blaze At Popular At Cecil County Eatery: Official

Almost 20 fire companies joined forces to battle a restaurant fire officials first believed was sparked by a propane tank explosion.

The first alarm sounded around 10:30 a.m. for the fire at Jumbo Jimmy's Crab Shack, located at 1065 Bainbridge Road​. Initial reports were for a propane tank fire behind the back of the restaurant but officials now believe it was a kitchen fire.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Volunteer firefighters from several Harford County fire departments and companies were called to help battle a two-alarm fire that broke out late Sunday morning at Jumbo Jimmy's Crab Shack in Port Deposit. Nearly 20 fire companies joined forces to fight the quickly spreading fire that caused an estimated $1 million in damage.

The restaurant had reopened a few months ago under new ownership with a new menu, according to its Facebook page. It has been a fixture in the area for 20 years.

The first alarm sounded around 10:30 a.m. for the fire at Jumbo Jimmy's Crab Shack, located at 1065 Bainbridge Road. Initial reports were for a propane tank fire behind the back of the restaurant. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s investigation report states the fire started in an interior kitchen.

Multiple tankers and fire engines were on the scene before fire alarm mutual aide companies. Multiple units were called to help The Community Fire Company of Perryville Maryland Inc., including several from Harford County: Susquehanna Hose Company, Level Volunteer Fire Company, Aberdeen Fire Department, Darlington Volunteer Fire Company and an engine from Aberdeen Proving Ground Fire and Emergency Services.

Mutual aid companies from Cecil County, Harford County, Maryland State Police, Chester County in Pennsylvania, Lancaster County in Pennsylvania and New Castle County in Delaware responded to the scene to help with fire and overhaul operations.

The fire was brought under control shortly after 4 p.m.

Jumbo Jimmy’s manager, Sophia Heverin, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the 22 full- and part-time employees who lost their jobs before the holidays.
