Fires Blaze Outdoors Near Abingdon, Forest Hill

'Outdoor burning is not recommended' through Thursday. — Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS spokeswoman Jenn Chenworth.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Firefighters in Harford County have responded to multiple outdoor blazes Wednesday afternoon, according to public safety officials.

Citizens were advised to be cautious regarding outdoor burning through Thursday due to weather conditions.

There were two fire incidents in the area as of 4 p.m., said Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

  • A woods fire was reported in the 2700 block of Pulaski Highway, where the Abingdon Fire Company was working after 4 p.m.
  • A field fire broke out in the 1600 block of North Fountain Green Road before 3 p.m. A citizen had been burning leaves when the fire spread, burning a small outbuilding, a vehicle and brush. The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company worked to control the blaze, and no injuries were reported.

Harford County is in a moderate drought, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for "dry, breezy and mild conditions through Thursday," Chenworth said. "Outdoor burning is not recommended during these weather conditions."
