Flags Lowered In Honor Of Former Harford County Sheriff William Kunkel

Flags will be flown at half-staff Dec. 16-19 in honor of former Harford County Sheriff William Kunkel.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Flags have been ordered lowered in honor of former Harford County Sheriff William Kunkel. Flags will be flown at half-staff from sunrise Dec. 16 through sunset Dec. 19.

On Tuesday, Kunkel passed away at the age of 97. Kunkel was the longest serving sheriff in Harford County history, from 1963 until 1981. Following his retirement, Kunkel served as chairman of the Maryland State Parole Commission for four years.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former Sheriff Bill Kunkel. I knew Sheriff Kunkel as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and community servant. Bill and his family remain in my prayers," said Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly.
