FOOTBALL: Running the Hall Way, Bobcats Dominate Cobras

Dezmon Hall ran for three touchdowns and had two interceptions in the Bobcats shutout win against Harford Tech. The game followed the stadium's grand opening parade through downtown.

It may have been just the second game in Bobcat Stadium, but Dezmon Hall has set the bar rather high as performances go.

With three rushing touchdowns, including a 67-yarder, and two interceptions, the senior running back and defensive back stole the show in the Bobcats' 45-0 victory against Harford Tech on Friday.

"Last week he played decoy a lot for us and this week we knew that he was going to be a major part of our offense," Bobcats head coach David Huryk said.

Just 30 minutes after the downtown parade to honor the stadium opening concluded, the Bobcats (1-1) were well on their way to evening their record and starting off county play with a win.

It was Huryk's first victory in his first season leading the Bobcats. His players made sure he would not forget the special night by dousing him with a cooler of ice water late in the fourth quarter.

"[It felt] cold to be honest with you. But it's a good feeling. Like I said to the boys, I couldn't be any more proud of these guys," Huryk said. "These are the guys that I want to lead on the field every week because we have that kind of closeness."

Bel Air took a 25-0 lead into the second half, and just when it looked like the Cobras (0-2) got a break, Hall restored order.

The Bobcats fumbled away the ball just seconds into the second half, but Hall pulled down his first interception on the subsequent play. Although the Bobcats would not score on that drive, Hall's second interception came about five minutes later with 9:39 remaining in the third quarter. One minute and 39 seconds later, senior Chris Jones scored his second touchdown of the night.

The game was so lopsided by the middle of the third quarter that the running clock rule was put in effect.

Juniors Alex Glove and Jay Delgado scored Bel Air's other two touchdowns, all of which came on the ground.

Before the game Huryk was worried about defending Harford Tech's passing attack, but it was not an issue. Senior Matt Sweitzer had an interception of his own to go with Hall's two picks.

Bel Air's first 12 plays from scrimmage were all runs, leading to Hall's opening touchdown.

"We tried our best just to be methodical and stay on our backs the best we possibly could," Huryk said.

Hall said he knows what it will take to carry momentum into Friday's 7 p.m.game at Patterson Mill.

"It all starts at practice we gotta get better at practice; not be lackadaisical and just come out and just work every single day," the senior said. "Don't take any days off and we'll be great."

The Cobras attempted a 52-yard field goal as time expired. It was online, but fell short in the end zone.

Harford Tech coach Mike Woods, whose team hosts Baltimore Lutheran at 7 p.m. Friday, was visibly frustrated as he left the field, and politely declined comment.
