Former Aegis Building Getting New Tenant
A flooring company will reportedly begin moving in this summer.

The building that used to house The Aegis will not sit vacant for much longer.
Spartan Surfaces, which is moving from Forest Hill, will begin renovating the Hays Street property in August—installing sidewalks, updating the exterior and adding a public art amenity—according to The Aegis.
Spartan Surfaces is a flooring company that markets itself as taking a “human-centered approach” to projects.

It has offices in Illinois, Maryland, Pennsylvania, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, New York and Virginia. Its headquarters in Forest Hill is in the 100 block of Industry Lane.
The company will move 24 employees from the Forest Hill Airpark location to downtown Bel Air once the work on the building on Hays Street is complete, according to The Aegis, which said it would take approximately four months. The building will be a corporate headquarters and not include retail.

Until 2011, The Aegis occupied the space, which for nearly 50 years also contained its printing presses, Patch previously reported.
The newspaper moved its printing operation to Baltimore in 2010 and relocated its editorial staff to Main Street the following year.
The midwest and Atlantic-centered Spartan Surfaces company focuses on commercial installations. Some of its recent local projects include Mays Chapel Elementary in Timonium and Brightview Senior Living in White Marsh.
