Former Bel Air Fire Chief Richard Woodward Dies

The former chief of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company has died.

Past President and Past Chief Richard Woodward passed away Sunday, April 17, according to a statement from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

"This morning a leader, icon, mentor, father, husband, grandfather and many other words that explain Chief Richard (Dick) Woodward, passed away," Chief Rick Davis Jr. said in a statement Sunday.

The leadership of Woodward "made a bunch of us who we are" and "made the firehouse what it is today," according to Davis, who said: "Dick, we will remember you and do our best to take care of the community as you would want us to."

There will be a viewing from 2 to  9 p.m. on Friday, April 22, and a fire department memorial service at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22, at the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, 109 South Hickory Avenue, Bel Air.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, also at the firehouse on Hickory Avenue.

Civilian vehicles should park in the parking garage, while fire equipment will be parked across the street from the firehouse.
