Frederick 'Bunky' Traut Jr., 88, Former Major League Pitcher

Frederick G. Traut Jr., a retired BGE Engineer and Ball Room Dance instructor for Harford County Parks and Recreation, died peacefully in his home Sept. 20, 2015.
The Bel Air resident was born to the late Leola and Frederick G. Traut Sr., of Baltimore.
He was a graduate of Poly Technic Institute, where he often returned to substitute teach Calculus. He was recruited to baseball, pitched for the Orioles as well as the A’s and was inducted into the Maryland Old Timers Hall of Fame. He served in the Army Special Forces and played basketball while serving his country.

Fred later attended Johns Hopkins University and received a degree in Science and Engineering.
He married Florence Corbett Hicks in 1975 and lived in Bel Air. He was loving father to Janet Brock, Fred Traut III, the late Gary Traut, and Brian Traut. He was loving step father to Sandra Regula and Charles Hicks Jr. He was a father in law to William (Randy) Brock, Pamela Hicks and Michelle Traut. He was a loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren, Justin Brock, the late Nic Traut, Anthony Stamerro, Charlie Hicks, Alyssa Hicks, Kris Traut, Jessica Traut, Sarah Traut, Alexandra Regula, Emily Traut and Christina Regula. He was loving great grandfather to 8 children.

Visitation will be from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, at McComas Funeral Home, 50 W. Broadway, in Bel Air. There will be an additional visitation before the funeral, from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 9534 Belair Road. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the church.
