HS Baseball Team Makes School History By Winning Conference Championship, Breaking Records
The John Carroll School's varsity baseball team has shattered records, became conference champs and made school history this summer.

BEL AIR, MD — Now that the dust has settled on the infield, members of The John Carroll School's varsity baseball team are celebrating making school history this summer after they secured the most wins in program history and nabbed an MIAA A Conference Championship for the first time.
But the accolades didn't stop there for the Patriots baseball team. Under the leadership of head coach Darrion Siler (2001), the team also earned a spot in the prestigious, invite-only Perfect Game National High School Showdown in Alabama, as well as ending up ranked #15 in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Siler told Patch that although he was "thrilled" with his team's success on the field, it's their character, values and morals shown off the field that weigh more in his opinion.

"The wins, the stats, the records, the championship, those are all meaningful. But the moments that will stay with me forever didn’t come from a walk-off or a big strikeout. One such moment came in the middle of game one of the championship series against Calvert Hall at John Carroll," Siler said.
"A Calvert Hall player went down with a medical emergency and everything stopped. Without hesitation, our players walked over to the Calvert Hall dugout and invited them to join them in prayer around the mound. Two teams, in the biggest game of the year, put the competition aside and joined as one, not as rivals, but as young men united in something much bigger than baseball," Siler told Patch.

"No one told them to do it. That was them, John Carroll players, showing exactly who they are and what matters most. It wasn’t about the scoreboard in that moment. It was about compassion, leadership and shared humanity. That moment, players from both teams, arms around each other, heads bowed, is one of those moments I’ll remember forever. I’ve always believed coaching is about people first. Seeing our players respond that way, without being asked, told me everything I needed to know. That’s the culture we’ve built. That’s character in action. And that’s what this is all about," Siler said.
Five students from The John Carroll baseball team played in the Brooks Robinson All-Star Game at Camden Yards July 13, held after the Baltimore Orioles’ game against the Miami Marlins. The participating student-athletes are all recent graduates from the class of 2025: Drew Jourdan, Will Rhine, Casey Carpenter, Brooks Mueller and Dallas Brooks.
Rhine endured surgery on both hips to return for his senior season and was named the Gatorade Maryland Player of the Year. He currently ranks among the top 50 best players in the country, the school shared. But the honors pale in comparison to the comradery and memories he and his teammates have made this year, he said.
"Given the fact that most of the senior class had played together since Little League, it really made the championship that much more rewarding. The team really wanted this and when you have a large group of like-minded people ultra-focused on a goal, it makes it that much more sweet," Rhine told Patch.
"On a personal level, individual awards and recognition are always nice and everyone likes that type stuff, but I wouldn’t trade anything for the experience of being able to dog pile with my teammates and celebrate the championship. Given the fact that I was coming back from two major surgeries, I wasn’t really sure how much I would be able to contribute to the team this year, so from that standpoint, I’m very grateful for the recognition," Rhine added.
