Orchards Around Maryland: Your Fall 2026 Apple-Picking Guide

Fall brings the beautiful change of leaves, a pumpkin patch visit, football fun and a trip to the apple orchard.

While Maryland isn't one of the top apple-producing states in the country, there are still plenty of orchards to check out, even with a drop in the apple forecast for 2026-2027.

Sadly, many Maryland apple orchards saw their crop either drastically reduced or completely wiped out by a late spring freeze. Some report having almost no apples at all for 2026.

Based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest production estimate and US Apple’s analysis of production in states not included in USDA’s annual survey, total U.S. apple production for the 2026-2027 crop year is forecast at 263 million bushels, which is down 7% from last year and 3% below the five-year production average.

Patch has compiled a list of some of the best apple orchards in the state. But before you go, call ahead or check the orchard’s website to confirm hours of operation, apple availability and any special activities they may be hosting.

Mary's Land Farm

Address: 4979 Sheppard Lane, Ellicott City
Season dates: The farm and farm store are open year-round.
Details: Mary’s Land Farm offers a farm store, animal encounters and seasonal family activities. Its 2026 Barnyard Fall Festival begins Sept. 19 with animals and fall attractions. The farm also hosts special events, children's programs and other activities throughout the season.

Larriland Farm

Address: 2415 Woodbine Road, Woodbine
Season dates: The main season runs from late May or early June through Oct. 31, with limited November hours through Nov. 25. The 2026 Fall Festival runs Sept. 8 through Oct. 31.
Details: The farm offers pick-your-own apples and pumpkins along with other seasonal fruits and vegetables. Fall Festival weekends include apple and pumpkin picking, hayrides, a giant corn maze, Sudex maze, Boo Barn, live music and food trucks. Fresh apple fritters are sold on weekends.
Hours: Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed Mondays except for certain holidays. Pick-your-own entry ends 30 minutes before closing.
Cost: Fall Festival weekend admission is $14 per person and includes pick-your-own field admission, hayride, mazes, Boo Barn and other attractions. Weekday field admission is $3 per person, with some attractions costing extra. Produce picked is purchased separately. The farm market is free to enter.

Clark's Elioak Farm

Address: 10500 Clarksville Pike, Ellicott City
Season dates: Open March 28 through Nov. 8.
Details: The farm's fall season includes a pumpkin patch, petting farm, hayrides, pony rides, cow train, Enchanted Express Train, Enchanted Forest attractions, Fairy Forest, play areas and other activities. Visitors can take a hayride to the pumpkin patch, while weekend food vendors sell items including kettle corn, lemonade, hot dogs and pizza.
Hours: During pumpkin season, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Cost: General admission is $8 per person age 1 and older. Admission includes the petting farm, Enchanted Forest and Fairy Forest attractions, play areas, slides and picnic areas. Additional activities cost extra, including the Enchanted Express Train for $5, hay wagon rides for $3, cow train rides for $3 and pony rides for $3.

Lohr's Orchard

Season dates: The orchard announces daily apple availability online.
Details: The family-owned Harford County orchard dates back to 1928 and offers pick-your-own produce, including apples, as available. It also sells fresh produce, baked pies, locally sourced products and fresh-pressed apple cider when in season. Because pick-your-own availability changes with harvest conditions, Lohr's directs customers to its Facebook page for daily updates before visiting.
Hours: Retail stand is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pick-your-own hours and availability vary, so visitors should check with the orchard before visiting.
Cost: Varies by crop and quantity; the orchard does not post current pick-your-own apple pricing on its website.

Shaw Orchards

Address: 5594 Norrisville Road, White Hall
Season dates: Apples are listed in season from Aug. 4 through Nov. 25, 2026, although pick-your-own availability is extremely limited this year.
Details: Shaw Orchards' apple crop was badly damaged by the April 21 freeze. The farm offered pick-your-own Gala apples during a brief period around Labor Day, but warned it could be the final pick-your-own apple event of 2026 because of the freeze. The farm market continues to carry several apple varieties as available. In a typical year, pick-your-own apples are offered on Saturdays in September through about the end of October.

Weber's Cider Mill Farm

Season dates: Apple varieties generally ripen from July through November.
Details: Weber's grows numerous apple varieties, with the main fall harvest including Gala, Honeycrisp, Cortland, Macoun, Jonathan, Crimson Crisp, Golden Delicious, Empire, Jonagold, Ambrosia, Stayman Winesap, Fuji, Granny Smith, Pink Lady and others. The farm is also known for its cider mill, farm market and fall activities. Apple availability varies by variety and harvest conditions. Tickets are on sale now for the 51st Johnny Appleseed Festival & Fall Harvest Days.

Butler's Orchard

Season dates: Butler’s normally offers a variety of pick-your-own crops through the fall, but its apple crop was affected by the April 2026 freeze.
Details: Butler’s is a longtime pick-your-own farm with a farm market, Farm Park and seasonal festivals. Pick-your-own availability changes with weather and crop conditions, so visitors should check the farm’s crop calendar before visiting.
Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Farm Park hours and festival hours may vary.
Cost: Pick-your-own admission is $5 per person; children younger than 2 are free. You must purchase a picking container when making a reservation. Produce costs extra.

Homestead Farm

Season dates: The 2026 crop was devastated by the spring freeze, and almost no apples survived.
Details: A small number of CrimsonCrisp apples survived and are available for scattered pick-your-own harvesting while supplies last. The farm market is selling pre-picked apples from Pennsylvania, including Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious and Buckeye Gala. Pumpkin picking is expected to begin in late September.
Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Mondays.
Cost: Farm admission is required to enter the pick-your-own area. CrimsonCrisp apples are $2.49 per pound.

Kingsbury's Orchard

Address: 19415 Peach Tree Road, Dickerson
Season dates: Closed for the entire 2026 season.
Details: Kingsbury’s Orchard grows apples, peaches, pears, nectarines and other fruit, but extensive damage from the April freeze prompted the family to close its farm market for the entire 2026 season. The fruit trees themselves were not damaged, and the orchard plans to welcome customers back for the 2027 season.

Lewis Orchards

Address: 18901 Peach Tree Road, Dickerson
Season dates: The farm market operates from June through November. Apples are available during the late summer and fall harvest.
Details: The family-owned farm has operated in Montgomery County since 1888 and grows apples, peaches, sweet corn, cherries, apricots, plums, nectarines, pumpkins and numerous vegetables. Current apple offerings include Gala, Honeycrisp and Fuji. The market also sells homemade pies, local honey, preserves and other locally produced foods. Produce availability can change throughout the day, so customers are encouraged to call before visiting.

The Orchard at Doc Waters Cidery

Address: 22711 Wildcat Road, Germantown
Season dates: There will be no pick-your-own apples in September or October. Customers are asked to stay tuned for announcements about potential picking in early November and a special event coming to the orchard this fall
Details: Formerly known as Waters Orchard, the orchard is part of Doc Waters Cidery. Apples grown on the property are used to produce the cidery’s hard cider. In a normal fall season, visitors can pick apples at the orchard and visit the nearby cidery for cider, apple cider slushies, food trucks and other offerings. The cidery and orchard are at separate addresses.
Hours: Orchard hours are seasonal, and it is currently listed as closed. The cidery, at 22529 Wildcat Road, is open Friday from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
