Harford Community College Selected as a Top School in Military Advanced Education & Transition's 2016 Guide to Colleges & Uni

Harford Community College has been designated a Top School by Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAE&T).

Harford Community College has been designated a Top School by Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAE&T) in its 2016 MAE&T Guide to Colleges & Universities, measuring best practices in military and veteran education.

Harford Community College works hard to identify ways in which services can be improved to assist active duty military, members of the Reserve forces, military family members and veterans. Harford strives to address the unique issues and challenges these students face when entering the college environment.

The College follows recommendations of the American Council on Education in awarding credit for military training so that many active duty soldiers and veterans are able to complete degree requirements more quickly. To better serve and assist our military and veteran students, Harford has established full-service centers where students can complete the enrollment process from start to finish. One location is on campus and the other is located at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Harford Community College is a member of Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC), a consortium of national higher education associations that subscribe to principles designed to provide quality academic programs to military students and their families.

HCC is also a supporting member of My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA), a Department of Defense program to assist spouses of active duty service members in completing college and other training programs designed to develop portable career skills that will enable them to find employment as they transfer from post to post with their military partner.
A Veterans Club was formed to serve HCC student veterans and HCC military students enrolled at the College, as well as military spouses and their children, by promoting the needs and interests of veterans and their families. Meetings, trips, and other activities provide an opportunity to meet both formally and socially in an environment of mutual support to those who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces. More information about support for military and veteran students at HCC is available at http://www.harford.edu/military .
The 2016 MAE&T Guide to Colleges & Universities presents results of a questionnaire of the military-supportive policies enacted at more than 600 institutions including private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, four-year, and two-year colleges. It arms students with information about institutions that go out of their way to give back to our men and women in uniform. This year, institutions were evaluated on their military culture, financial aid, flexibility, general support, on-campus support and online support services.
With input from an advisory board of educational and government experts, and criteria based on recommendations from the VA and military services, MAE&T’s Guide to Colleges and Universities provides the foundational information a prospective student would use in framing his or her educational needs.

“Our goal is to be a dynamic resource for active servicemembers and those who have moved from the military to their civilian careers, helping them find the school that best fits their plans for the future,” said Kelly Fodel, Military Advanced Education & Transition’s editor.

“While we realize that all schools are unique, we focus our annual survey on the best practices that make a true difference to servicemembers and student veterans,” said Fodel. “These best practices have been asserted by various higher education groups and reinforced by veteran groups, and we consider our survey to be the most detailed and informative in the industry.”
