Harford County: 85 Percent of Roads Plowed Monday Night

Front-end loaders helped speed up process of plowing in Harford County.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD – With additional crews enlisted to help plow Harford County’s 1,000 miles of roads and 1,200 cul-de-sacs, the Harford County Department of Public Works announced significant progress Monday night.

By 7 p.m. on Monday, crews had cleared at least one lane on 85 percent of the county’s roads, according to the Bureau of Highway Engineering.

Particularly on cul-de-sacs and roads with townhouses, there have been challenges due to limited space for snow to go and the number of driveways, officials said.

These areas require the use of a front-end loader, and the county reported it has procured 17 additional front-end loaders since Monday morning for a total of 25 and now is making “much better progress.”

The county issued this report after 9 p.m. on Monday:

“Crews will be on the road attacking the snow throughout the night. We are striving to reach all of the roads with at least one pass of the snow plow by early tomorrow [Tuesday] afternoon. Although I’m sure there are some who are unhappy with the progress, please know that the Highways crews have worked incredibly hard and have not been home since they started fighting this historic snowfall event last Friday evening. Please bear with them as these dedicated employees continue to help the residents of the County dig out.”
