Harford County Coronavirus: Teachers To Reach Out Monday

With schools closed, officials say Harford County Public Schools teachers will start connecting about remote learning Monday, March 30.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Families in Harford County may get calls from blocked or private numbers Monday that are coming from teachers. If people don't accept the calls, teachers will be encouraged to leave a message with a time they will plan to call back.

"Please be on the lookout for these calls," Harford County Public Schools urged Sunday night in a message to parents.

The goal for the week is to reestablish contact with students and figure out how the best way is to stay in touch while school closures continue.

To slow the spread of the new coronavirus, public schools in Maryland closed from March 16 to March 27. State Superintendent of Schools Karen Salmon extended the closures Wednesday, so they will continue at least through April 24.

"In preparation for an extended closure, we have developed Recommended Learning Experiences for families to use with their children over the next two weeks," Harford County Public Schools Superintendent Sean Bulson said in a statement.

Families can find the materials online by entering their child's student ID number on the HCPS website in the "Out-of-School Curriculum Materials" section.

"Throughout this crisis, we ask you to continue following the directions and guidance from the Governor to practice social distancing and refrain from any unnecessary travel," Bulson said. "Over the last two weeks we have all encountered significant changes in our personal and professional lives, and we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding moving forward through these unprecedented times. The health and safety of our students and community members is our first priority, so thank you for everything you have been doing toward that end."
