Harford County Fire and EMS Plan Unveiled
County Executive David Craig presented the plan Thursday.

Nearly three years after a study for the project began, the Harford County Fire and EMS Services Master Plan has been released.
“We have no intention of replacing the volunteer fire service or EMS service in Harford County,” County Executive David Craig said before unveiling the document of more than 500 pages Thursday.
Also released was the 16-member commission that will begin meeting in March.

“We also anticipate that this group will be together for many years,” Craig said. “Right now it’s making recommendations to me.”
He added that the group will have a stronger legislative role in the future. For now, though, its primary roles include monitoring and implementing the plan and advising the county executive.

William Cox, a former state delegate, will serve as the initial chair for the board, which features current and past members of local fire departments, insurance company representatives and law enforcement officers, including the of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
Craig acknowledged the anticipated influx of population due to BRAC and said that the emergency service volunteers “are a vital service to the people of Harford County.”
