Harford County Public Schools Updates Weather Decision Monday

BREAKING: There has been a change to Monday's schedule based on weather, according to Harford County Public Schools.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Harford County will be closed Monday, Dec. 16. Officials made the announcement Monday morning, which was an update to the delay announced Sunday night.

"Due to continuing weather forecasts and conditions, Harford County Public Schools and offices will be CLOSED today, Monday, December 16, 2019," the school system said in a statement.

After-school and evening activities are canceled.

First-shift custodians should still report on time. The building chief will be contacted by custodial service coordinators with further instructions, officials said.

Harford County Public Schools shared photos from the transportation department, whose staff contributes to the decision-making process regarding school closures. One of the pictures showed a road temperature of 29 degrees, which is below freezing.


The school system makes the decision to close when "roads, school parking lots and/or school driveways/walkways are considered unsafe for school bus transportation or student/staff use," according to a statement from Harford County Public Schools.

Administrators receive input from Maryland State Police, the Harford County Public Schools transportation office, Harford County Sheriff's Office, Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration and Harford County highways personnel in evaluating conditions.
