Harford Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight for Baltimore, Harford, Prince George’s and Anne Arundel counties plus Baltimore City.

The National Weather Service reports that damaging wind gusts and large hail are possible threats, and thunderstorms could create flash floods.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 9 p.m. in Harford County.

Quarter-size hail and damaging winds above 60 mph are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms were spotted on a line from New Freedom, Pa., to Owings Mills to 7 miles south of Sykesville at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to the weather service. They were moving east at 25 mph.

“Severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds, large hail, deadly lightning and very heavy rain,” according to the weather service, which advised moving to the lowest level of homes or businesses and avoiding water-covered roads.

Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Harford and Howard counties as well as Baltimore City were included in the severe thunderstorm warning.

A severe thunderstorm watch is also in effect until midnight.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of the state, including Harford County, in effect until 8 p.m. on Monday, June 8.

A tornado watch means severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible.

Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Charles, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s counties are included in the watch area.

Baltimore City, the District of Columbia and parts of Virginia are also under the watch.
