Harford Health Center In Heart Of Bel Air Focuses On Families

BEL AIR, MD — The Harford County Health Department on Sept. 1 opened a new health care center focused on families, with an emphasis on youth and adolescents.

The 1 N. Main Family Health Center in Bel Air provides convenience for families and a "level of care that everyone deserves," according to Harford County Deputy Health Officer Marcy Austin.

Located in the heart of Bel Air, the center provides a variety of services in one place, from mental health to dental care, and offers referrals for wraparound services.

Here are the offerings, according to the Harford County Health Department:

• Women's health care services, including free pregnancy testing
• Dental services for children on medical assistance as well as expectant and postpartum mother for up to a year after birth
• Behavioral health clinic including experts in youth and adolescent behavioral health and connecting adults with mental health and addiction specialists
• Care coordinators helping with tobacco cessation plus cancer and diabetes prevention
• Women’s Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program

Staff can also help applicants seeking free health care through the Maryland Children's Health Program for eligible pregnant women.

“We are so excited to be able to offer these types of services to our community," Austin said. "It started as a grand idea a year and a half ago, and even though COVID caused an unwanted interruption, the project has finally come to fruition."

The 1 N. Main Family Health Center officially opened Sept. 1.

The Harford County Health Department continues to provide services at its Edgewood, Havre de Grace and Bel Air locations.
