Harford Humane Society Waives Adoption Fees on Saturday

FALLSTON, MD — The Humane Society of Harford County will waive adoption fees on Saturday, July 23, as part of a national campaign to bolster adoptions at animal shelters.

The "Clear the Shelters" program resulted in more than 19,000 pet adoptions last year, according to NBC, which began sponsoring the initiative in 2015 to help clear shelters during what is typically a busy season.

The Humane Society of Harford County is among more than 400 shelters across the U.S. participating in the Clear the Shelters day on July 23.

The head of the shelter on Connolly Road in Fallston said she hopes that waiving the fees will mean all the animals will find forever homes on Saturday.

“Almost 4,500 animals enter our shelter every year — including cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs, ferrets, mice and rats, chickens and more,” Jen Swanson, executive director at the Humane Society of Harford County, said. “We want to open for business on Sunday with little or no animals left!”

The Humane Society of Harford County is located at 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, for Clear the Shelters day.

“When you come to the shelter to select a pet, keep an open mind. Put old biases aside and use your head and your heart," said Cat Kelly, shelter operations director at Humane Society of Harford County. “Talk to our staff members. They are very familiar with each animal and can give you good insight into which pet is right for you.”
