Harford Man Guilty Of Shooting At Police And Neighbor: Judge
Though Benjamin Thomas Murdy pleaded Maryland's version of an insanity defense in the 2020 shooting, he was found criminally responsible.
BEL AIR, MD — A Harford County man was found guilty of a slew of charges – including five counts of attempted first-degree murder – after he wounded his neighbor and fired nearly 200 rounds at sheriff's deputies in 2020.
The Baltimore Sun reported that Benjamin Thomas Murdy, 45, of Street, was also found guilty of five counts of first-degree assault and one count each of reckless endangerment, use of a firearm and aggravated animal cruelty.
Though Murdy pleaded not criminally responsible – Maryland's version of an insanity defense – he was found criminally responsible for nearly all of the charges he faced, according to the Sun.

Deputies responded to an animal cruelty call in the 4500 block of Oak Ridge Drive in Street on Jan. 21, 2020, The Baltimore Sun reported. After staging down the street, shots rang out from Murdy's house, hitting his neighbor, Robert Schell.
