Harford School Officials Select 6 Seniors for Page Program

Students from Bel Air, Patterson Mill, John Carroll, Edgewood and North Harford will serve in Annapolis in 2015.

This winter, six Harford County students will have Annapolis as their classroom for two weeks, after Harford County Public Schools selected them for the Maryland General Assembly’s Page Program.

  • Ashley Harley of Edgewood High School

  • Tyler Ziegler of North Harford High School

Local school systems are tasked with picking pages who apply for the state program, which has been operational since 1970, according to the Maryland Department of Legislative Services.

Students chosen for the program spend one week in Annapolis at the beginning of the legislative session, which starts in January; and they return to work as pages for another week at the end of the session, which concludes in April, according to the department.

As pages, the students will distribute materials to lawmakers on the floor, answer phones, deliver messages, keep bill books updated, run errands and help visitors. They do not work in the offices of senators or delegates, which is assigned to staff and interns, according to the department.
