Abingdon House Fire Was Arson: Fire Marshal

A fire in an Abingdon home Friday morning was intentionally set, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.

A passerby discovered the fire in the 1300 block of Harford Town Drive at 2:35 a.m. on Friday, May 23, the fire marshal reported.

The blaze began in the first-floor kitchen and second-story bedroom inside the home, the report said. Investigators think the blaze was arson, according to the fire marshal.

Approximately 40 firefighters from Abingdon, Joppa-Magnolia, Bel Air and Aberdeen responded, bringing the blaze under control within 20 minutes, the fire marshal reported.

The fire caused $100,000 in structural damage, and items valued at $25,000 inside the home were also lost, the report said.
