Roads Reopen After Hazmat Incident: Harford Fire And EMS
Residents were asked to shelter in place Friday because of the issue near St. Mary's Church Road, officials said.

BEL AIR, MD — A hazmat incident closed off an area south of Bel Air for several hours on Friday, according to officials. Residents were asked to shelter in place during the investigation.
Malathion had spilled inside a garage in the area of Grand Oaks Court and St. Mary's Church Road, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. Malathion is a pesticide.
Before 1 p.m., Gardiner said that firefighters and hazmat crews closed Grand Oaks Court at St. Mary's Church Road while investigators responded.

Hazmat personnel neutralized the garage, and the Maryland Department of the Environment also responded, according to Gardiner.
By 2:30 p.m., he reported fire and hazardous materials crews were wrapping up their work at the scene, and all roads in the area had reopened.

PREVIOUS REPORT: A hazmat incident has closed off an area in Bel Air South on Friday, according to officials. Residents are being asked to shelter in place.
Grand Oaks Court was closed at St. Mary's Church Road as of 12:52 p.m., according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.
Gardiner said that because of a hazmat incident, nobody would be allowed to enter the development until the response was completed.
He said there was no danger to the environment or health.
