Hazmat Situation at Mini Golf in Churchville
The hazmat teams from two counties hit the links Thursday to practice their skills.
With temperatures around 70 and the sun shining on a late October day, Harford County first responders picked up their clubs and hit the golf course. The mini golf course, that is.
Crews from Darlington, Aberdeen, APG and Baltimore County tested their skills donning their hazmat suits Thursday morning at Churchville Golf Center as part of an annual training exercise.
The hazmat teams put on their gear and play miniature golf as a way to improve their ability to move, see and be nimble in their suits and breathing equipment, according to emergency personnel.

First responders were out from approximately 9:30 a.m. to noon as part of the training, which included playing the entire 18-hole course in their suits.
This was the 15th annual hazmat mini golf event, according to Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner.

The winner of this year’s affair was Chief of the hazmat team Mike Brunicke and Crew Chief Ray Ryan, Gardiner said. They had a score of 93.
