HCC Closes Following Threat, Investigation Ongoing
Authorities said they had one person in custody in connection with a threat at Harford Community College.

BEL AIR, MD — A threat shut down Harford Community College Friday morning and closed campus for the rest of the day. Deputies were at the campus for approximately five hours investigating the situation.
Officials said nothing suspicious or concerning had been found by about 3:35 p.m., at which point the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported it had cleared the scene.
"No charges have been filed, at this time," the sheriff's office said in a statement, noting that its investigation was continuing.

Authorities had reported after 10:40 a.m. that deputies were investigating a threat, and a person of interest was in custody. There was no information about the nature of the threat to the campus in the 400 block of Thomas Run Road.
"The situation appears to be under control at this time," the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported before 11:15 a.m., noting there were no injuries.

"HCC received a non-specific threat to the campus," according to a statement posted on the Harford Community College website. "Out of an abundance of caution we are closed for the remainder of the day, Friday, January 3." All classes, programs and events at the campus are canceled. Anyone who is on campus and does not have transportation should go to the Harford Community College library's first floor for assistance, officials advised.
An emergency alert issued at 10:10 a.m. said the closure was necessary "while we investigate the matter."
According to The Aegis, Harford County Public Schools reported no area schools were impacted.
