HCC to Offer New Cyber Defense Certificate
The Cyber Defense Certificate program is slated to begin in the 2016 spring semester.
With the increase of data breaches, computer viruses, and other related security intrusions, organizations are in need of professionals who can protect electronic data and equipment from internal and external security threats. Pending Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) approval, Harford Community College will be offering a new Cyber Defense Certificate to train students in cybersecurity, prepare them for industry-recognized certificates, and position them for entry-level employment in a rapidly growing field.
The Cyber Defense Certificate program is slated to begin in the 2016 spring semester, and classes will be offered in the evening in a cohort format. The program is accelerated and can be completed by fall 2016. Students pursuing this certificate will have the support of a career navigator throughout their experience in the program. In addition, credit may be awarded for prior learning.
HCC offers a comprehensive Information Assurance and Cybersecurity program that prepares students for entry into the high-demand field of information technology security. This program was recently redesignated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. This designation, which covers academic years 2014-2020, recognizes the quality and rigor of HCC’s Cyber program; it is only held by seven other Maryland community colleges.
