Helicopter in Forest Hill Was Doing BGE Work: Officials

First responders were dispatched to a mistaken report of an aircraft in distress.


FOREST HILL, MD – A concerned citizen reported that a helicopter had hit power lines off MD 24 Friday afternoon, according to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

Crews responded to Route 24 near Sharon Road to investigate and found that a BGE helicopter was evaluating the power company's transmission lines in the area, the fire company later reported.

BGE is fastening and stringing new overhead wires using a helicopter, which may involve moving ropes and hovering over individual transmission towers, according to a statement from BGE.

Work with the helicopter will continue during daylight hours from March 2 to March 22, the statement said.
