Blaze On Jarrettsville Pike Started In Bedroom: Fire Marshal

Crews fought a one-alarm fire Friday morning near the Harford-Baltimore county line, according to authorities.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A house fire off Jarrettsville Pike closed the road temporarily Friday morning. Officials said crews from Harford and Baltimore counties battled the blaze.

At 5:02 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, a resident of the home in the 3100 block of Jarrettsville Pike discovered the fire, which started in a bedroom, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The people in the home were alerted when the smoke alarm went off, the fire marshal reported.

Officials said about 15 firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in 15 minutes. The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company was reportedly in command at the scene.

During the firefighting operation, Jarrettsville Pike was closed between Hess Road and the Baltimore-Harford county line, according to Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association. She said one lane on Jarrettsville Pike was open by 6:45 a.m.

Investigators estimated there was $11, 000 in damage — $10,000 was structural and about $1,000 worth of items in the home were also lost.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal said that the cause remained under investigation.
