'Human Rope to Stop the Dope' Forms in Bel Air

Citizens raised awareness together about addiction.

Dozens fanned out along Main Street in Bel Air recently, joining together in what participants called a “Human Rope to Stop the Dope.”

The Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy, which coordinated the Sept. 27 event, said the goal was to raise awareness about addiction, celebrate recovery and unite against substance abuse and addiction in Harford County. September is National Recovery Month.

Nearly a hundred people gathered on Main Street to show their support for the cause, The Aegis reported. The event outside the Harford County government building was in memory of Alyssa Whelan and others who lost their lives to drug addiction, according to the Office of Drug Control Policy. Whelan, who lived in Bel Air, died at the age of 19 from a heroin overdose in Fallston alongside her boyfriend, Patch previously reported.
