Abingdon Woman Hit By Box Truck On I-95 Near Elkton, Police Say
A pedestrian from Harford County was hit by a box truck on Interstate 95 in Cecil County Sunday morning, police reported.

CECIL COUNTY, MD — An Abingdon woman has life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a box truck on Interstate 95 near Elkton after walking onto the highway Sunday morning, police said. The crash occurred after 9:30 a.m., and lanes were closed until just before noon.
Sarah Elizabeth Gotfredson, 32, of Abingdon, pulled over onto the shoulder of I-95 and got out of her vehicle, then entered the highway, police said. Her reasons for doing this are currently unknown, police said in a statement on Sunday.
Several vehicles were able to avoid her but then a box truck hit the pedestrian, according to officials.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene, and Gotfredson was taken to Christiana Hospital in Delaware with life-threatening injuries, police said. The truck driver was not injured, according to Maryland State Police spokesman Ron Snyder.
Traffic on I-95 south was impacted from exit 109/MD 279 to the Delaware line for more than two hours, according to officials.

I-95 south was completely shut down, and police said traffic was diverted at the Delaware toll plaza with backups extending from Elkton to the state line.
By 11:50 a.m., all lanes had reopened.
The crash remains under investigation, according to Maryland State Police.
