I-95 Speed Crackdown Planned for Thursday in Harford County: MDTA

Special patrol will target speeders and aggressive drivers on I-95, according to Maryland Transportation Authority.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Aggressive drivers, be forewarned. Police will be cracking down on speeders and aggressive motorists Thursday along Interstate 95 in Harford County.

State and local law enforcement agencies will saturate the section of I-95 between the MD 24 interchange and the Baltimore-Harford county line, according to a statement from the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA).

Specifically, officers will be enforcing the 65 mph speed limit and watching for additional aggressive driving behaviors.

"Speed and aggressive driving continue to be major factors in crashes in Maryland and across the U.S.," MDTA Executive Director Kevin Reigrut said in a statement.

There are 15,000 speed-related crashes in Maryland each year, the MDTA reports.

Aggressive driving includes the following:

  • Speeding
  • Failing to obey traffic control devices
  • Overtaking and passing
  • Following too closely
  • Passing on the right
  • Driving in the emergency lane
  • Failing to yield the right of way

The Aberdeen, Bel Air and Havre de Grace police departments; Harford County Sheriff's Office; Maryland State Police; and MDTA are participating in Thursday's patrol.
