I-95 Tractor-Trailer Crash Snarls Traffic In Harford County
A hazmat vehicle was involved in a crash while responding to a tractor-trailer flip on I-95 in Harford County Wednesday, officials said.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A tractor-trailer flipped on Interstate 95 in Harford County Wednesday morning. The vehicle lost a payload on the right shoulder of I-95 south, officials reported. As crews were responding to that incident, a second crash, involving a Harford County hazmat vehicle, occurred, police said.
The tractor-trailer crash happened on southbound I-95 before the exit for MD 543. The right lane was to remain closed for an extended period of time for cleanup, the Maryland Transportation Authority advised at approximately 10:30 a.m.
A second crash was reported on I-95 between the exits for MD 543 and Maryland House, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. As of 10:50 a.m., the fire company said its medic unit was one of three responding to the crash.

According to Maryland State Police, a Harford County hazmat Ford Explorer with its lights and sirens activated had been turning left from I-95 north to get to the tractor-trailer crash when a Volvo passenger vehicle hit it at 10:35 a.m.
Three people were hospitalized as the result of that collision, which resulted in both vehicles coming to rest in the median, police said.

Ford Explorer driver John Simpson, III, 59, of Jarrettsville, was taken to Upper Chesapeake, according to officials. Volvo driver Nancy Manke, 71, and her passenger, Hugh Manke, 74, both of Hamden, Connecticut, were injured and taken to Harford Memorial Hospital, police said.
Due to the response to the incident on I-95 south, troopers and emergency personnel were already at the scene. Police said that the investigation into the collision was ongoing.
