UPDATE: Starbucks Back Up and Running

Outage Friday night has been resolved.

By Todd Richissin

The point of sale register outage has been resolved and all Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada are opening for business Saturday as usual. Our Evolution Fresh and Teavana Tea Bar stores are also opening as scheduled. As previously stated, the outage was caused by an internal failure during a daily system refresh and was not the result of an external breach. We apologize to our customers for this inconvenience.

Starbucks registers across the country and Canada quit working Friday evening, causing many of them to close early and others to remain open with extremely limited service.

If you’re headed to the Starbucks drive-through in Bel Air Friday night, so far you’re out of luck. Starbucks said a system refresh of its register system caused the outage but the company had no estimate on when the problem would be fixed. That means if you’re headed out Saturday for your morning Joe, you may want to first check with the Starbucks you plan on hitting or check the Starbucks website.

“We are actively working to resolve the outage,” the company said in a statement. “Our stores that have not already closed for the evening are closing early ... We apologize to our customers for any inconvenience or confusion and will update this statement once systems are back online. This outage also affects our Evolution Fresh and Teavana stores.”cleardot.gif
