Jarrettsville Resident Honored by The Arc Baltimore

Jarrettsville resident Maddie Backer recently received a Special Appreciation Award from The Arc Baltimore for providing outstanding assistance to the organization.

Madeline “Maddie” Becker spent part of her summer last year volunteering at The Arc Baltimore’s Towson Community Employment Connection Center. Maddie quickly became part of the Center. Both the supported individuals in the program and the staff grew fond of her and appreciated her energy and enthusiasm. She, in turn, grew very close to some of the individuals and developed a new understanding of The Arc’s mission to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

As a result, when Maddie decided to pursue an opportunity through the Baltimore Yacht Club to perform a year of ceremony and service for the Club, she chose The Arc’s Bay Buddies program as her charity. Maddie has used the opportunity to inform Baltimore Yacht Club members about The Arc and to raise funds for the Bay Buddies program. At one function, she had an information table and talked to member after member about Bay Buddies. Thus far, Maddie has raised more than $3,000 for The Arc.
