BEL AIR, MD — A teacher at the John Carroll School who sparked an online petition was reportedly fired this week.

The Change.org petition called for the school in Bel Air to take action against a teacher appearing to give the finger to a Trump-Pence bumper sticker. It received more than 1,500 signatures.

"John Carroll has given kids severe punishments based on their social media posts and private messages. If John Carroll is really about equality and fairness, the administration will take action," the petition stated. "We the people demand action immediately."

The teacher was fired on Tuesday, according to The Aegis, which said the private Catholic school also took down its public Facebook page that day.

"It's not in response to any outside influences," a spokesperson for John Carroll told The Aegis of the teacher's termination, adding the school had been moving toward private Facebook groups.

According to Fox 45, the teacher started a GoFundMe page to take legal action against the John Carroll School over her First Amendment rights.
