John Francis Callahan, 89, Retired Biochemist Toxicologist at Edgewood Arsenal

On Dec. 27, 2016, John Francis Callahan, beloved husband of Dorothy H. Callahan (nee Sauerwald); devoted father of John Callahan Jr., Colleen Freeman, Kevin Callahan, Thomas Callahan, Anne Pesto and Laura Callahan Mezan; dear brother of Susan Wolfe; loving grandfather of eight grandchildren; cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Louis and Irene Callahan, his three sisters Patricia Walsh, Rosemary Ross, and Alma Thurman and his two brothers Louis and Eugene Callahan.
John shared a great love for music and was an accomplished musician, having played multiple instruments. He spent his career from 1952 to 1990 as a biochemist toxicologist at the U.S Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, formerly known as Edgewood Arsenal. He was well-regarded by his peers and was an asset to his field.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road on Friday, Dec. 30, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m. at Oak Crest Village Chapel. Interment on Sunday, Jan. 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Shrine Roman Catholic Church Cemetery (Emmittsburg, MD).
