Joppa House Fire Started in Living Room: Fire Marshal

The fire at a home in Joppa, which injured a firefighter, was ruled an accident, the fire marshal reported.

A house fire in Joppa Wednesday morning injured one person and caused $150,000 in damage, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The fire started in the walls of the living room in the 2600 block of Old Joppa Road, the fire marshal reported.

The blaze was ruled accidental, as the result of a malfunctioning flue on a wood stove in the house at 2:06 a.m., the report said.

Approximately 45 firefighters—from Joppa-Magnolia, Abingdon, Bel Air, Fallston, APG and Kingsville—brought the blaze under control within less than half an hour, according to the report.

A 23-year-old Joppa-Magnolia firefighter was taken to Upper Chesapeake for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury to his right hand, the report said.

The blaze caused $100,000 in structural damage, the fire marshal said, while $50,000 in items within the home were lost.
