Joppa Man Killed in Crash with Box Truck: Sheriff

The 21-year-old pedestrian's death was deemed accidental, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reports.

JOPPA, MD – A Joppa man died when he ran into the path of a box truck early Wednesday morning in what authorities have ruled an accident.

Scott Ores Jackson, 21, was running along the driveway to the Super 8 when a box truck pulled in and headed for the motel's parking lot, according to a report from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., as the truck passed Jackson in the driveway, investigators say the runner lost his footing and fell in the path of the truck's rear wheels. He experienced a fatal head injury, according to the report from sheriff's office.

The driver and passenger in the truck were unaware of the collision and continued on into the Super 8 parking lot, the sheriff's office reported.

Deputies called to investigate a man's body lying in the motel's parking lot determined Jackson's death was an accident, officials said, and the Harford County State's Attorney's Office will not be filing charges.
