Kitchen Blaze Damages Bel Air Apartment

The fire started in an apartment off Route 22, Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association reports.

A fire broke out in a Bel Air apartment Wednesday night, causing serious damage, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

The fire in the 900 block of Pentwood Road occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company, which responded to the incident along with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, according to the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, which reported the blaze started in the kitchen and was due to unattended cooking.

Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association. To stay safe in the kitchen, the association advises cooks to do the following:

  • Never leave the kitchen when you are frying, boiling or grilling food; if you must leave the kitchen, turn off the stove.
  • Make sure towels and oven mitts are not near the stovetop.
  • If fire occurs, do not try to fight it yourself; call 911.
