"We had the largest day in the history of our business ... and we beat that record," Director of Operations Marshall Klein said.

BEL AIR, MD — A family-run grocery chain in Maryland with stores in Harford and Baltimore counties as well as Baltimore City had record-breaking sales this week.

"We had the largest day in the history of our business this past Thursday, and we beat that record on Friday," Director of Operations Marshall J. Klein said in a statement Sunday. "Our stores remain open and ready to serve you and help you with all your grocery needs."

Klein made the announcement as some other grocery chains have limited their hours while shoppers clean out shelves amid concerns about the new coronavirus outbreak.

"We are fully stocked with meat, poultry, seafood, fish, fruit, vegetables and all staple food products," Klein's ShopRite said in a statement Sunday.

Limits are in place on certain items at its stores: They are posted to ensure everyone gets the bottled water, cleaning products and toilet paper they need. Klein said limits vary by product.

"We have been super impressed by the dedication of our associates and the understanding of our customers," said Klein, a fourth-generation member of the family that runs the grocery chain.

He said everything was in stock Sunday, except one item that has been stocked and restocked.

"Toilet paper is on the truck, then we sell out, then next truck comes, and then we sell out," Klein told Patch. "But we have been getting regular deliveries."

Given health concerns while Maryland is under a state of emergency, Klein's ShopRite stores are taking extra precautions to ensure germs do not spread.

"We’re wiping down our entire front-end areas, PIN pads [and] hard surfaces twice an hour, as well as [doing] a very thorough deep clean multiple times a day," Klein said of the protocol at the nine Klein's ShopRite locations. One staffer has been designated to oversee the cleaning of the front part of each store with customer service, while another is responsible for disinfecting employee break rooms, freezer handles and other hard, high-contact surfaces, he told Patch.

Klein’s ShopRite operates the following stores from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily:

"We've had no instances of the virus in any one of our locations," Klein told Patch Sunday evening. He has 1,300 employees, and said all stores were open for regular hours.
