Last Day Of School Set For Harford County Public Schools

Barring any additional weather-related school day cancelations, Harford County Public Schools has set its last day of school.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Maryland State Department of Education has approved the Harford County Public Schools' request for a three-day waiver to the state’s 180-day instructional requirement for the current school year.

As part of the waiver request, April 17 and May 22 will shift from early dismissal days to full instructional days. HCPS will waive the final teacher workday to honor staff time.

With the approved waiver and these adjustments, if no additional inclement weather closures are needed for the rest of the year, the last day of school for students will be an early dismissal on Thursday, June 18. Teachers last day will be that same day, but after a full day at school.

Earlier this month, the county board of education approved Harford County Public Schools' three-day waiver request. The district used seven inclement weather days already this academic year.

According to Katie Ridgway, chief of staff for HCPS, the school district has exceeded the required 1,080 learning hours for elementary students and 1,170 for secondary students, The Baltimore Sun previously reported.
