Lawn Tractor Parked In Shed Ignited Forest Hill Fire: Officials

One person was burned and $5,000 in damage resulted from a blaze on Bynum Ridge Drive, officials said.

FOREST HILL, MD — A fire in Forest Hill has been traced to a riding lawn mower that was parked inside a shed, according to investigators. One person suffered minor burns trying to extinguish the blaze, the fire marshal said.

The homeowner in the 300 block of Bynum Ridge Drive discovered the shed fire at 12:57 p.m. on Monday, July 19, officials said.

About 20 firefighters from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company brought the blaze at the wood-framed 10-by-20-foot shed under control in 20 minutes, according to the fire marshal.

There was about $5,000 in damage, the fire marshal reported, including $2,500 in structural damage and $2,500 worth of items that were lost.

One person who tried to extinguish the fire suffered minor burns and refused medical treatment, according to authorities.

The fire was ruled accidental. Investigators said it was caused by "hot surface ignition involving a recently operated riding lawn tractor."
