Leaves burning in a fire pit sparked a blaze that destroyed a nearby garage and patio furniture at a home in Harford County, officials say.

The Forest Hill resident suffered minor burns while attempting to put out the fire that destroyed a detached garage and patio furniture. The Office of the State Fire Marshal has estimated the loss at $35,000.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A detached garage and patio furniture were damaged by fire after a resident was burning leaves in a fire pit Nov. 3. The fire then spread to nearby brush and on to the garage and furniture.

The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company was first on the scene at 2008 Highfield Court in Forest Hill. It took around 20 minutes for them to gain control of the fire that broke out shortly before 3 p.m.

The resident suffered minor burns while attempting to put the fire out. The Office of the State Fire Marshal has estimated the loss at $35,000.
