Incumbents Cassilly, Gahler Win Republican Nominations: 2026 Primary Election Update

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The 2026 primary election was held Tuesday in Harford County with winners being announced still on Wednesday.

The tables below will continue updating in real time as the state releases new vote tallies.

Incumbent Bob Cassilly won the Republican nomination for Harford County executive and will face off against Democrat Barbara Kreamer or Matthew Brown in November. Cassilly beat Republican Patrick Vincenti to win the nomination in Tuesday’s primary election.

With all 63 precincts reporting, Matthew Brown holds 4,644 votes (50.02%) and Barbara Osborn Kreamer has 4,640 votes (49.9%).

In the race for attorney general, two candidates ran unopposed for each party. Anthony Brown will be the Democratic nominee in the general election, facing off against James Rutledge, III for the Republicans.

Jeffrey R. Gahler won the Republican nomination for Harford County sheriff and will face off against Terrence Rogers in November.

Gahler is running for re-election and seeking a fourth term. He was first elected in 2014 and has served as Harford County’s sheriff for more than a decade. Rogers, the only Democrat running for sheriff in the 2026 election, is a veteran, former law enforcement officer and pastor.

Alison M. Healey, the Republican incumbent for Harford County State's Attorney, is running unopposed.

With all 63 precincts reporting as of Tuesday night, candidates pulled ahead in several races.

Democratic candidate Mike Ciufo ran unopposed for County Council president, while Billy Boniface pulled ahead of his opponents Tony Giangiordano and Samuel Kahl, grabbing 10,418 votes (47.46%).

The following candidates were the biggest vote-getters in County Council races as of Wednesday:

• District C - Paula Etting (R) and Jessica Ryley Hammond (D)
• District D - Jean Salvatore (D) and John B. Carl, Jr. (R)
• District E - Hunter Baker (D) and Douglas J. Phillips (R)
• District F - Tamie M. Wainwright (D) and Glen Glass (R)

For the board of education races, the following candidates were leading as of Wednesday:

• District A - Donna Blasdell
• District B - Keri L. Geibler
• District C - Cathy Kowalewski
• District E - Robert Wagner
