Local Young Marines Volunteer Awarded Adult Volunteer of the Year

Nick Hampshire, Training Officer with the Jarrettsville Young Marines, awarded Division 2 Adult Volunteer of the Year.

The Young Marines, a national youth organization, has named Nick Hampshire the “Division 2 Adult Volunteer of the Year.” He is the training officer with the Jarrettsville Young Marines which meets at the Jarrettsville VFW 8672, 1714 Morse Road, Forest Hill, Maryland.

Each Young Marine unit is led and guided by adult volunteers. There are nearly 2,500 active and registered adult volunteers with the organization. Annually, one adult volunteer is selected from each of six divisions for “Volunteer of the Year.”Division 2 includes Washington D.C. and five states: Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky.

“Our unit is very motivated and has a wealth of knowledge,” Hampshire said. “We are very active in the community providing color guards and support at various events.”

Hampshire states that he loves the program. He was a Young Marine with the Jarrettsville Young Marines beginning in 2006. When he retired as a Young Marine in 2012, he turned around and offered to be an adult volunteer.

“Mr. Hampshire is an extremely dedicated volunteer who truly enjoys seeing his Young Marines grow into responsible citizens,” said Col William P. Davis USMC (Ret), national executive director and CEO of the Young Marines. “Our volunteers choose to give us their most valuable commodity, their free time. We sincerely appreciate that Mr. Hampshire gives much of his free time to the Young Marines, and I know they are thankful for all that he does."

“What means the most to me is being able to help the youth of today prepare to become great adults and accomplish wonderful things in the future,” Hampshire said.

The Young Marines promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members.
