Longtime Pharmacy Building Converts Into Butchery, Cafe

The building that housed Boyd and Fulford Drugs in Bel Air for 127 years will become the home to John Brown's General and Butchery.

BEL AIR, MD — For 127 years, Boyd and Fulford Drugs was a fixture in Bel Air. Seven years after it closed, the pharmacy's former building is undergoing a makeover to become a space for John Brown General and Butchery.

John Brown’s General and Butchery, run by Michelin Chef Robert Brooke Voss, currently has a location in Worthington Valley, Baltimore County. According to its website, the business specializes in "whole animal butchery of grass-fed, grass-finished beef and pasture-raised pork, lamb and poultry. We also dry-age beef in house. Our butcher staff keep the cases stocked with a rotating selection of house-made sausages, pates, breakfast and charcuterie meats alongside pantry items, local eggs and vegetables, provisions, local bread, house-made baked goods, spirits, beer and wine."

There's also a counter-service, made-to-order lunch menu offered Tuesday through Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The vegetables are organically grown all in Maryland, and supplies vary based upon the growing season.

ADW-Architectural Design Works, Inc. made the announcement of the new busienss on its Facebook page, stating "Cats out of the bag, John Brown’s General & Butchery will adaptive re-use Boyd & Fulford on Main Street in Bel Air."
