Man Arrested In Shooting Near Edgewood McDonald's: Police

Michael Freeman Saunders, Jr. has been charged for attempted murder for a shooting near the McDonald's in Edgewood.

EDGEWOOD, MD — A 29-year-old man has been arrested for the July 22 shooting near the Edgewood McDonald's, Hartford County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday.

Michael Freeman Saunders, Jr., of Edgewood, is charged with attempted first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and firearm use in the commission of a violent crime, police said.

Just after 1 a.m. July 22, police were called to the McDonald's in the 2200 block of Pulaski Highway for the report of a subject suffering from a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim, Edward Eugene Trafton, 38, of Edgewood, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

While en route to the McDonald's, deputies were informed Trafton had been shot in the 1700 block of Crimson Tree Way. Patrol deputies responded to secure both locations, police said. The initial investigation indicated Trafton was shot while he was in a home in the 1700 block of Crimson Tree Way.

On Tuesday, deputies executed a search warrant at Saunders' home and were able to take him into custody without incident, police said.

After being interviewed by Sheriff’s Office detectives, Saunders was transported to the Harford County Detention Center where he is being held without bail.
